In Orbit

In Orbit is a VR interpretation of the data used for the Orbit Pavilion, in collaboration with MAP Design Lab and Glowbox. The app is available at the Microsoft Store! The piece was also presented as a mixed reality experience inside the Orbit Pavilion at the Huntington.

From Thomas Wester at Glowbox:

In Orbit is an interactive virtual reality immersion made to complement the Orbit Pavilion, an immersive outdoor sound installation at the Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino, CA.

In Orbit transforms data collected by NASA’s “Eyes on Earth”—the satellites relaying information about our climate, oceans, and soil from thousands of miles above our heads—into a multisensory, interactive experience that celebrates the marvelous complexities of our planet and our drive to unravel them.

By creating a delightful way for everyone to have a dialogue with earth science data, In Orbit hopes to provoke a renewed curiosity about our planet, a passion for its infinite wonders, and a deeper connection to the only home we have.

You can experience In Orbit at The Huntington on select dates in Summer 2018. The experience will also be available for free on the Windows Mixed Reality platform in Fall 2018.

In Orbit will also be available as a standalone virtual reality educational tool available from Microsoft Store and Steam.
